Objecting to the state calling dengue as a mystery fever, in a statement he said, “The government is just concentrating on concealing such deaths instead of providing proper treatment or taking preventive measures. Parents of affected children are attesting to the fact. The health department has been declaring dengue as a ‘mystery’ fever and the treatment provided for the infection is even more mysterious.” He added, “The health department and the government must answer for the loss of precious life of children in the state.” Citing the death of a girl Ayisha Jeslin (11) in the children’s hospital of Egmore on Friday night, he said such deaths have been taking place regularly for the last few years. “Looking at the way, this issue has been handled by the state government, it appears that the health department has also become sick,” he added. Meanwhile, more than 100 residents gathered on the Pallavaram-Kundrathur Road on Saturday and blocked traffic demanding an explanation following the death of the child. In the last one month alone, six children were suspected to have succumbed to ‘mystery’ fever including siblings from the same family and a girl near Pallavaram.
