Mason among 2 killed in different incidents in city
A mason was hacked to death near Triplicane railway station and a pavement dweller was killed by his friend at Kothavalchavady in the city late on Wednesday night.

Police said S Dayanidhi (32), a resident of Mattankuppam, Karpaga Kanniyamman Koil Street, Triplicane and a mason by profession was hacked by a group of four assailants at around 10.10 pm on Wednesday.Â
A badly injured Dayanidhi was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital and later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. He failed to respond to treatment and died at the hospital. Police suspect previous enmity to be the cause of the murder. The assailants were identified as Vinod (28), Balaji (22), Suresh alias Jollu Suresh (26) and Srikanth (23) all hailing from Mattankuppam.Â
The deceased had assaulted Srikanth a week back and had a verbal duel over some issues. The youth took revenge by hacking Dayanidhi with hired killers, police said. Marina police have registered a case and launched a search for the young men who were absconding. Police added that Jollu Suresh, one among the accused, already had several cases against him.
Meanwhile in Kothavalchavady police station limits, a platform dweller smashed the head of his neighbour and murdered him under the influence of liquor. Police arrested A Robert (56).Â
Robert and M Krishnamurthy (37) lived on the same platform near Nattu Pilliyar Koil Street in the area. They used to consume liquor together. On Wednesday night, the duo had drinks and in the process a quarrel ensued between them.Â
The verbal duel escalated and they came to blows. In fit of rage Robert picked up a floor tile and smashed the head of Krishnamurthy and ran away. Krishnamurthy died on the spot.Â
His sister Tamizhselvi (35) filed a complaint with the police. The police team arrested Robert and remanded him in judicial custody. The accused reportedly confessed to the crime.
Tea shop worker held for injuring customer
A tea shop worker was arrested for breaking a glass bottle on the head of his customer in a shop located in Periamet.Â
M Ramesh (32), a resident of Naval Hospital Road, Periamet used to frequent the tea shop in which C Shaji (60) was working. On Wednesday Ramesh, who had gone to the shop picked up an argument with Shaji. Provoked by Ramesh’s frequent insults, Shaji picked up a glass bottle from the shop and broke it on his customer’s head.Â
Ramesh suffered bleeding injuries and he was rushed to the hospital. Later Ramesh complained to the police and based on it Shaji was arrested.Â
