High Court closes plea in CM’s health case

The two men who are facing criminal cases and possible arrest for their October 15 Facebook and Twitter posts on the health of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, had moved the High Court to forbear the State government officials from ‘harassing’ them and ‘interfering’ with their social media accounts.

Justice B Rajendran while disposing the plea held that, “In view of the submissions made on either side, it is made clear that the duo shall not in any way give room to any rumours in public which will create law and order situation and spread rumours regarding the ill-health of the Chief Minister who is undergoing treatment, as they are not qualified as such to give such opinion.”

The judge also held that, “The Coimbatore police shall proceed with the investigation of the criminal original petition in accordance with law and the duo shall cooperate with the investigation.”

R Navaneethakrishnan and S Rajeev Gandhi of Coimbatore had contended in their plea that Facebook posts pertain only to the feelings of common people about the way the government and ruling party and its ministers had dealt with the hospitalisation of the Chief Minister, and how the government has not come forward to even issue an official bulletin on the issue.
