Tainted city cop yet to be shifted out

It was learnt that two media persons, who also reportedly worked hands in glove with the gambling centre owners and police were exerting pressure on the police top brass to let Rajaguru stay back at Nungambakkam police station. 

“We have not issued any order of transfer yet. It is an administrative issue and we will be handling it,” a senior police official told DTNext while admitting the constable’s role in helping the gambling centres. 

During recent raids at Nungambakkam, the city police busted three main gambling centres and seized nearly Rs 9 lakh from them. The Nungambakkam police found to have defied the orders of the Additional Commissioner Intelligence, who had ordered the station house officers to report regarding such centres in their jurisdiction. When all other inspectors reported back about such centres and conducted raids, Nungambakkam police did not respond to the order. Then a special team was sent to Nungambakkam and the raids were conducted.

During the raids, officials unearthed a police-gambling centre nexus and found out that two constables, Charles, attached to Nungambakkam police station and Rajaguru, constable with city intelligence have been guarding these centres. They also got reports regarding involvement of two persons attached to leading vernacular newspapers, who protected these policemen using their connections with the police top brass. It was further revealed that these people even used an ex-DGP to keep these constables posted at Nungambakkam itself.
