According to the Boozers Welfare Association state president P Chellapandian, the outfit has selected MS Arumugam (49) as its candidate for Thanjavur. They have planned to file the nomination on Monday. “We hope to rattle the key candidates from major parties,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of Noyyal Farmers’ Welfare Association have decided to contest the Assembly election for Aravakurichi segment. Noyyal Ramasamy, the president of farmers’ association will be the candidate. With an ultimate objective to draw the attention of governments towards the plights of Noyyal farmers struggling under the adversity of pollution impacts, the likely independent candidate said that no political party has shown concern to revive the 20,000 acres of cultivable fields banking on much polluted Noyyal river in Karur district for past two decades.

“Soon we will launch our election campaign targeting the voters in farming community and also in allied sectors such as dairy units in the constituency, as all of them are equally frustrated over the apathy of elected representatives in speaking for the polluted Noyyal river. Since no politicians have taken up our decades long issue, we have decided to do on our own without thinking much about the results,” Noyyal Ramasamy said.
