Brothers in arms and partners in innovation, Aromal Jayaraj Shikky (MD) and Abbishek Jayaraj Shikky (Chief Executive) of Kloudpad Mobility Research Ltd started their company in the UK in 2010 with an aim to break into the tablet market that was then dominated by bigwigs such as Samsung and Apple. But they weren’t just keen on making these handheld devices – they wanted to make them in India. Having registered as a company in India in 2013, the duo set their base in Kochi with an objective to take their business to new heights.
The duo refers to their company as a player in integrated mobile technologies for vertical markets including utilities, healthcare, education, public safety, and retail. With a product line-up that includes tablet PCs, accessories, software and wireless infrastructure, Aromal tells us, “Our tablets are used by the Government of Tamil Nadu, as well as corporates such as Lulu Group, Dhathri Ayurveda Group, Ernst & Young and Aster Medcity.
One of our major projects involved supplying tablets for Tamil Nadu’s government controlled ration shops in Tiruchy, which used our hardware as a platform for their billing system. We have supplied upwards of 300 tablet units to the TN Government for use in their various welfare initiatives.” In fact, Kloudpad is one of the companies that will be taking part in the upcoming Tech Summit, organised by the UK’s Department for International Trade which will see the participation of the Prime Ministers of both India and UK. Talking about their plans for the future, Aromal says, “In the last two years, we have invested upwards of Rs 7 crore in India over capacity building.
Our next big leap will be to set up our own indigenous manufacturing unit in India. Coimbatore and Chennai are two locations that we are very keen on exploring, the latter especially due to the presence of an already robust manufacturing ecosystem. We are keen on tapping the Internet of Things (IoT) marketplace as well.”
