The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee (CRRC), a confederation of various political parties and farmers’ associations, has decided to launch a non-cooperation movement against the Union Government which acted against the interests of Tamil Nadu in river water sharing issue.

P Maniyarasan, the convener of CRRC, while announcing the plan of action fixed at a consultative meeting of the forum held in Thanjavur on Wednesday, said the forum has also decided to stage black flag protests against the union ministers, whenever they visit the state.Â
He said the Centre is more vociferous in denying the rights of Tamil Nadu over Cauvery than Karnataka. The argument that the parliament and the union government alone has the right to decide on the formation of the CMB, indirectly points out that the Tamil Nadu would never get back its right over the Cauvery waters, he said.
If the rights over Cauvery was not restored, lakhs of farmers and agricultural workers would lose their livelihood and many districts in the state would go without drinking water. Hence to protest the Centre’s approach, the CRRC has decided to launch a week-long campaign on non-cooperation movement from October 22.
The CRRC meeting also urged the TN Government to impose an economic embargo against Karnataka and not to allow any produce of Karnataka into the State. A resolution of the meeting asked the workers of NLC limited to switch off the supply to Karnataka.
