Even after 36 hours of the incident police have not recorded his arrest and said special teams were on the job to apprehend the accused. The Thoraipakkam area witnessed tense moments as the Thoraipakkam police first refused to accept the complaint from the parents of the child and later accepted it based on public protest.

Police said the youth had come to visit his relative whose house was is next to the house of the victim played with the girl for a while and then sexually assaulted her at her house. Girl’s mother had gone out shopping when the incident happened. When the mother returned, she found the girl weeping. The girl told her mother about the youth who according to the police had been a regular visitor to his relative’s house. The girl was admitted to a government. The parents then approached the Thoraipakkam police and to register a complaint but was allegedly driven away by inspector Arockiaraj. The family and relatives of the child then blocked the road in protest demanding immediate arrest of the accused. It is learnt that the youth is related to a local political party member and that prompted police to go slow.

When contacted, Joint Commissioner, South TS Anbu denied police inaction and said police had accepted the complaint and had gone to the house of the victim to investigate. “The road blockade was organised after somebody spread a rumour saying that the girl’s condition was serious. We have formed special teams to nab the culprit and will be arresting the accused soon,” Anbu said.

Police top brass remain passive even after receiving so many complaints against the Thoraipakkam police in recent months. There had been allegations of inaction from the side of Thoraipakkam police on several chain snatching incidents. There had been a considerable increase in cases of robbery and chain snatching under Thoraipakkam police jurisdiction.
