PM’s action with an eye on polls: M Karunanidhi
The DMK patriarch came down heavily on the BJP and the Prime Minister for working against established principles with an eye on the elections in various states in 2017.

M Karunanidhi quoted the Centre’s sudden change of stand on the Cauvery Management Board issue as an example. “Instead of ordering Karnataka to obey the Supreme Court decision, the BJP-led Centre aiming to win the elections in that state took a ‘U’ turn on the formation of the CMB, even after the apex court had ordered its formation.”
Taking a dig at the Dusshera rally of the Prime Minister in Lucknow last week, the DMK chief said that Modi was giving undue push to the Hindutva agenda.
“The party has been trying to win the Uttar Pradesh polls by compromising on the secular values enshrined in the Constitution. The PM chanted ‘Jai Shriram’ twice and the imagery in the rally was nothing short of an imaginative Hindu Rashtra,” the Dravidian party chief said. “The Centre’s move to acquire 25 acres of Land for a Ramayana Museum in Uttar Pradesh clearly shows where the government’s interests are heading and whom they are targeting to capture power,” he added.
He said that such use of communal overtones by the BJP to capture power in Uttar Pradesh were highly condemnable. “Instead of involving in such dubious acts, it is better if the Prime Minister concentrate on addressing the public grievances,” he added.
