Central districts suffer worst due to big turnout of ryots
Owing to the protest by farmers and political parties across the delta districts, a total of 14 trains were either affected or fully cancelled on Monday, thus showing the intensity of protests over Cauvery dispute.

Due to the protest of the farming group, train service between Karur and Tiruchy was affected for more than an hour as farmers refused to vacate the rail line, and went on to plant paddy saplings in between the tracks.Â
Southern Railway announced that four passenger trains were cancelled, six partially cancelled and a few express trains were rescheduled in the Tiruchy division alone.Â
Train no: 16864 (Mannargudi – Bhagat-ki-Kothi Express), which was scheduled to leave Mannargudi at 12.20 pm on Monday, was rescheduled to leave at 6 pm. Train no: 11018 Karaikal – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, which was scheduled to leave Karaikal at 2 pm on Monday was rescheduled to leave at 5.30 pm.Â
Back at the zonal headquarters in Chennai, the Mangaluru bound West Coast Express started late by 45 minutes as MDMK leader Vaiko led the rail blockade, while Ahmedabad-Chennai Navjeevan Express suffered a delay of 20 minutes at Basin Bridge after it was waylaid by VCK leader Thol Tirumavalavan and his supporters . DMK cadres in Chennai led by its treasurer MK Stalin caused large scale disruption in suburban services in the city by choosing Saidapet, Permabur and Mambalam, stations to protest.
