The agency managers chanced upon it during a routine check. While they audited the total amount of money filled up in the ATM registries for the past six months, they found many differences in the cash amount. Most of them cropped up in the ATMs in the area of Mangalampettai near Vriddhachalam. Suspecting foul play by the staff, the agency manager Gopinath filed a complaint with the police.

Police thoroughly investigated the CCTV footages in the respective ATM’s and to their shock found that four employees of the agency were filling up the ATM with the cash properly at the first instance and later returning to the ATM and take back some of the amount deposited in the machines. As they know the secret codes to open the machines their job gets done easily.

The covert heist was going on in three ATMs of Mangalampettai for the past six months. The four employees were identified as Sudhakar, Sivakumar, Kanakaraj and Sampath Kumar from Vriddhachalam and Abaddharanapuram. Police rushed to their houses to arrest them, but all the four were absconding. Police had formed a special team to nab them.

Meanwhile in Nemili near Sholingar, a customer found an ATM machine tampered and informed the police. Burglars disconnected the power and network link before trying to loot the machine. However, the Rs 10 lakh in the machine was safe as the robbers abandoned their efforts half-way.
