All the efforts have not much of an impact as the officials will intervene and give certain promises and however, do nothing on them. It forces the people to agitate repeatedly on this issue. The irate public feel the heat of the heavy sand-laden lorries on their roads as they threaten their life and safety by reckless driving and damaging the roads beyond repair. However hard the villagers try, they are not able to take their agitation against the mafia in a big way as the group arm-twist and bulldoze such attempts with higher connections.

For instance, police prevented a group of people led by CPI leader R Nallakannu from besieging sand quarries where illegal mining happening. They also wanted to protest against the loaded lorries that create havoc on the narrower roads, but they were detained for few hours by the police to stop them from going ahead. On Friday, the public stopped 100 lorries in Ariyalur to close the sand quarry that damaged the entire road in their village and knocked down a few villagers, but all the efforts have not applied a complete break on the uncontrolled sand mining menace.
