Reporter's Diary: Journeys are never ending when address is incomplete
Appearances are deceptive, is a common adage but this reporter had recently found out that listed addresses of government institutions are equally deceptive.

Chennai
On a scorching afternoon, this reporter went in search of a medical institution run by Chennai Corporation armed with the address obtained from the website, which was just a door number on the busy Madhavaram High Road and a pin code. A cab ride to the busy market area on Madhavaram High Road (same pin code) seemed a journey in the right direction. From the door numbers listed on the buildings, she thought the medical facility was just a few blocks away and began walking only to find out after covering several hundred metres that there were two series of numbers on either side of the Madhavaram High Road. There were tailor shops, hardware stores and stationery shops, but the institution was not there.Â
On reaching the end of the road, and several queries later, a shopkeeper told her that the road stretched further north. And the journey continued. Along the way she quizzed vegetable and fruit vendors, chemists and petty shop owners, who responded with a puzzled look. After hunting in vain for over one-and-a-half hours, she found herself back at the spot where she began her journey. So, how authentic is the information on government websites?  — Janani Sampath, Chennai
