    Two more arrested for posting malicious contents about Jaya's health in social media

    Central Crime Branch wing of the Chennai city Police arrested two more people for posting malicious contents and rumours in the facebook on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health, even as a total of 52 cases were registered for spreading rumours in the social media.

    Police sources said, those arrested were T Maniselvam (28), a native of Ottapidaram in Tuticorin district, and S Balasundaram (48), an employee of a private firm in Pammal, on the outskirts of Chennai. 

    They were arrested for spreading false information about the Chief Minister's health. 

    It may be recalled that the city police had arrested two people on similar charges a couple of days back. 

    The two accused - Sathish Kumar and Madasamy - were arrested under sections 153, 505(1)(b)(c) and 505(2) of IPC for offences of spreading rumours with intent to cause riot, creating panic among general public, causing disturbance to public order and for creating hatred between two groups. 

    In the past few days some posts had appeared on the Social Media spreading false and malicious rumours about the health of the Chief Minister and a number of complaints were received by the Police in this regard.

    Stating that cases were registered and taken up for investigation, a statement said on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police S George multiple teams consisting of Police officers from the Cyber cell as well as experts on Cyber security were constituted to investigate these cases, track the culprits and apprehend them. 

    These teams worked continuously scanned all the suspect sites using various cyber tools and techniques. 

    Suspect social media sites posting such malicious information were also monitored.

    A total of 52 complaints have been received in this regard and the police were investigating to identify who had posted such false and malicious content on the social media. 

    Police warned that these offences were liable to be punished with rigorous imprisonment for more than 7 years.

    Users of social media are advised not to spread false, malicious and motivated information regarding the health condition of the Chief Minister, police said and warned that stern action will be taken against the culprits, if any such content is noticed.
