AIADMK councillor hacked to death in second attempt

Arumugam (42) was coming in his car after finishing his morning walk. While his car was near the new police station, a gang with sharp weapons blocked his way. 

They broke the car shield, sprayed chili powder and dragged him out of the car. Without giving him any time, they hacked him indiscriminately on the head and neck resulting in his death on the spot. 

Since it is early in the morning, there was no much public movement in the area. It helped the gang to escape. Passers-by later found Arumugam and alerted the police.

DSP Porchezhian visited the spot and held inquiry. Police suspect real estate rivalry as the motive behind the murder. However, political conspiracies are not ruled out. Because Arumugam had already represented the ward twice and nominated for the third time. Besides, he was involved in several criminal cases. So the police were interrogating the possibilities of revenge killing.

During the last attack, he managed to escape with the help of a few people waiting at the Tiruttani bus stand. The public successfully nabbed one of the gang member who came to kill the councillor. The arrested person, Satish, was grilled in connection with the murder by the police. Arumugam represented the 13th ward of the town and was a member of the planning committee of the district. He was also running a water bottling plant in Indra Nagar area. 

He was survived by his wife Chithra, two sons and one daughter. His body is kept in the Tiruttani Government Hospital for post-mortem. Since the murder, shops in Tiruttani remained closed due to tense situation. Heavy police presence was posted for security.
