OFT staff protest dropping of ‘Tiruchy’ tag from rifle

According to Saravanan, the convener of the agitation committee, the Tiruchy factory has been manufacturing a series of gears including 41 assault rifle for more than five years which is more powerful and accurate than that of the AK 47 variety. Since the craftsmanship is of high quality, the weapons are on high demand from the officials. Presently, orders are accepted for the police force in UP, Chhattisgarh and Kerala.
“As a convention, metals will have the tag of the factory in which it is being manufactured. For instance, the weapons made in Tiruchy will have the name as Tiruchy assault rifle,” he said.
However, the officials from Calcutta have decided to take out the tag ‘Tiruchy’ from the assault rifles while taking it to the vendors much to the chagrin of the employees.
The employees planned a joint demonstration against the move. “All the union representatives participated. We will fight till the name drop was withdrawn,” the agitating members said.
