4 new bus stands to clear Deepavali rush
Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation (TNSETC) would be setting up four temporary bus stands and exit points in and around Chennai city with a view to ease the heavy rush at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu, where passengers throng in large numbers to go to their native places for the Deepavali festival. Deepavali falls on October 29 this year.

The temporary bus stops will come up at MTC Bus Stand in Anna Nagar (West), State Election Commission bus stop opposite CMBT on the 100 ft Road, Arignar Anna Bus Stand at Tambaram Sanatorium (MEPZ) and Poonamallee Bus Stand.Â
These temporary bus stands would be set up in addition to the existing ones from where the TNSETC buses would proceed to various destinations in the State, besides to neighbouring states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
An official statement on Thursday said necessary arrangements were being made to operate special buses on October 26,27 and 28 to enable the people to celebrate the festival of lights in their native places along with their family members.Â
Passengers have been requested to board the TNSETC buses and APSRTC buses proceeding to Andhra Pradesh at Anna Nagar West MTC Bus Stand. Those heading to Puducherry and Cuddalore via East Coast Road and Kancheepuram could board the bus at State Election Commission bus stop on the 100 ft Road.Â
Passengers to Kumbakonam and beyond Thanjavur via Tindivanam and Vikkravandi could board the bus at Arignar Anna Bus Stand, MEPZ, while those proceeding to Vellore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur and Hosur via Poonamallee could board at Poonamallee bus stand. All the passengers were asked to board the buses at these temporary bus stands from October 26 to 28. The buses to places other than those mentioned, would be operated from the CMBT as usual. The buses with reserved seats from CMBT, Koyambedu would be operated via Maduravoyal, Poonamallee, Nazarathpet, Outer Ring Road and Vandalur instead of Tambaram and Perungaluthur.Â
Passengers who have made advance reservations for the buses with boarding point at Tambaram and Perungaluthur have been requested to board the buses at Urapakkam temporary bus stand.Â
Persons proceeding via Tambaram and Perungaluthur have been requested to avoid this route and were asked to drive through Tirukazhukundram, Chengalpattu and Sriperumbudur. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation would be operating feeder and additional buses from various destinations to all the temporary bus stands for the benefit of passengers.
