Court seeks report on Jayalalithaa’s health from government, hospital says she’s improving

People are anxious to know about the health condition of the Chief Minister, especially because of some information doing the rounds in public domain, a division bench comprising Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice R Mahadevan observed, while dealing with a public interest litigation moved by social activist KR ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy. Since the plea moved by Ramaswamy was not listed despite it being numbered on Monday itself, he made a mention of the same before the division bench and sought for an urgent hearing. However, Additional Advocate General C Manishankar raised the privacy aspect and submitted that there was no urgency in the issue as sought by the petitioner since the hospital has been issuing regular medical bulletins about Jayalalithaa’s health.

In response, the division bench, noting that it was not inclined to pass any order in the matter, sought the additional advocate general to obtain government’s instructions with regard to the issues raised in the PIL. The case is set come before the first bench on Thursday. Ramasamy in his plea had sought to know whether Jayalalithaa was conscious and in good health to take important decisions. 

Meanwhile, in a statement Apollo Hospitals said Jayalalithaa “continues to improve”. “The same line of treatment is being continued. She has been advised further stay in the hospital for treatment,” it said.
