The incident happened on September 16 when Fathima, Member of Tamil Nadu Social Activist Coordination Association, along with social activist Traffic Ramasamy was filming the political banners of AIADMK that were put up at Pandiavellalar Street in Madurai.

The banners were put up for a political meeting in which many Ministers and former Ministers participated. When the AIADMK cadre noticed Fathima and Traffic Ramasamy filming the banners they started arguing with them and there was ruckus on the spot.

Soon, two AIADMK functionaries Kannan, AIADMK Secretary of Ward no.3 of Madurai Corporation, and his aide Vazhaimaram Bose alias Chandrasekar started harassing Fathima and abused her verbally.

She replied that Supreme Court had banned putting up political posters and she was filming the banners put up illegally to file a case against them.

On hearing that both the AIADMK men pushed her down and threw the chairs on her. Following the chaos police intervened and stopped them. Then Fathima and Traffic Ramasamy too left the spot. After many days of discussions Fathima filed a complaint at Thideernagar police and based on the complaint a case was booked against Kannan and Vazhaimaram Bose.

Sources said that as Traffic Ramasamy had filed a case against erecting political banners and had obtained orders to remove them from Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) his aide Fathima had approached the police demanding legal action against AIADMK men for harassing her.
