After government rehab measures, NGO now makes effort
In order to rehabilitate these professional burglars, the state government attempted several ways to change their mindset, but all attempts had gone futile as even educated youth from the joined the gang lured by luxury.

In 2009, the then district collector T Soundiah along with the then superintendent of police A Kaliyamurthy attempted to rehabilitate them by arranging bank loans, but nothing worked out well. Around 80 families were provided with bank loans for an alternate business and a few were given free goat and cows. However, no one repaid the loan but returned to their ‘profession’ gradually.
Meanwhile, recently a NGO has been taking classes for around 100 kids from the area with key focus on moral science. According to a volunteer, they nurture the good values among the children and sensitise them to the fact that stealing was an offence. “We hope at least this generation change their life style,” the volunteer requesting anonymity said.
