5 men held for waylaying motorists
The Chennai city police on Friday arrested five men, who had waylaid people, threatened them at knife point and robbed the valuables in three different incidents in the city.

In the first incident, police arrested three persons, who had tried to rob a motorist. According to the complainant Mohammed  Ansari (25), a resident of Shastri Nagar, Vyasarpadi, three persons approached him when he reached Moorthingal Street and demanded money. When he refused to give, they pulled out a knife and threatened him in broad daylight.Â
When Ansari cried out for help, the three accused escaped. On the basis of his complaint police arrested K Sudhakar (26) of Tiruvallur, A Muthuraman (24) of Arakkonam and K Murukesan alias Mukesh (20) of Tiruvallur.
In another incident police arrested a rowdy S Yuvaraj alias Eli Yuvaraj (31), a resident of New Washermanpet for threatening a motorist at knife point. Police said Yuvaraj tried to extort money from L Pandiarajan (29), a resident of Old Washermanpet when he was travelling near Moolakothalam junction on Friday around 9 am. The accused then snatched Rs. 2,750 from Pandiarajan and escaped.
In the third case, a motorist was stopped and robbed at knife point at RS Road near Vinayagar Koil near Ennore. Police said TK Angappan (25), a resident of Amman Koil Street, Pazhaverkadu was abused and robbed at knife point when he was going to the Vinayagar Koil around 1.15 pm. Police arrested Saravanan alias Odi Saravanan (32). All the the accused were remanded to judicial custody later.
