Fresh notice to govt on overpricing of Kabali tickets
The High Court has issued notice on a plea seeking action against Chennai and Tamil Nadu cinema theatre owners, who had charged more than the rate fixed by the government during the screening of Rajinikanth starrer Kabali.
Chennai
Justice Kirubuakaran, on hearing the plea directed the government pleader to file a counter giving details of the action taken pursuant to the direction given by this court earlier and the action taken on petitioner’s representation dated July 20.Â
The petitioner G Devarajan had contended that he had purchased two tickets at a theatre in Perambur on July 20 and the said theatre charged him Rs 300 per ticket while the government fixed charge is just Rs 50. He said such a practice prevails in all theatres whenever movies of big stars are screened.Â
It may be noted that the same petitioner had moved the High Court even before the movie’s release to restrain theatre owners from collecting steep rates to screen big budget films, but his plea was rejected for short of time given to authorities.Â
