A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting said the Chief Minister on Tuesday.

“As many as 7,000 farmers will be benefitted and the additional burden to the exchequer will be Rs 20 crore. The loan dues of the farmers are waived within 100 days of the Congress party coming to office,” he added.

The Cabinet had decided to write off the penal interest of the loan availed from the cooperative housing federation, Narayanasamy said, adding “those who had availed loan from the cooperative housing federation are prepared to repay the principal amount as well as the interest, if the penal interest is waived.”

He said the Union government had forwarded the draft education policy to ascertain the views of the state governments and it was discussed in the cabinet on Monday. “The views of the union territory in its implementation according to our needs will be forwarded to the Centre,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the centre would be apprised not to introduce Sanskrit in schools and colleges here and Puducherry will never accept the ‘gurukul’ system of education and support the present system of education.

The concession being provided to the minority educational institutions as per the direction of the Supreme court at present should continue, the Chief Minister said.
