70-yr-old dies after suspected rape

Sources said that Kanthammal (70) was staying alone in a hut close to the Mankuttai bus stand at Pallathur. Owing to her old age she could not go for any work and was surviving with food given by some locals. 

Meanwhile, Ramamurthi (25) who was in an inebriated condition, while passing through her hut noticed that the woman was asleep. As there was no one in the vicinity, he barged into the hut and tried to sexually assault her. The septuagenarian resisted his attempt and tried to escape, but could not succeed in her effort. 

As the woman did not come out of her hut for a long time even after day break, some locals grew suspicious and went inside and checked. They  were shocked find Ramamurthi lying by the woman, who was motionless and without her clothes. On seeing her condition, residents suspected that the youth would have forcibly sexually assaulted and during the course she must have collapsed. 

Later, the public woke up Ramamurthi and tied him up to a pole before giving a sound thrashing.  On information police rushed to the spot and arrested the youth. A case has been registered and further inquiries on.
