BHEL Tiruchy bags honours for safety and innovation
Three of BHEL Tiruchirappalli’s units have won the National Safety Awards and twelve employees have been bestowed with Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskars (Vishwakarma National Awards) for the Performance Year 2014. The awards were presented by the Minister of State, Labour and Employment (Independent Charge) at a function held in New Delhi recently.

The Energy Systems Group Complex (ESG) has been adjudged winner for the longest accident-free period and lowest average frequency rate in the ‘0.1 to 0.25 million man-hours’ category, while the Welding Research Institute (WRI) has been adjudged runner-up for the longest accident-free period in the same category. Seamless Steel Tube Plant (SSTP) has won the award for the lowest average frequency rate in the ‘over one million man-hours’ category.
Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar Class A award was given to Magu Manchala Yaragorla (Artisan III), T Vijayakumar (Artisan III), E Vinoth Kumar E (Artisan II) and T Guna Sekaran (Artisan II) of Unit II of High Pressure Boiler Plant. They as a team developed an advanced argon purging set up for high chrome high alloy steel SA 335 P-91 pipe butt joint root welding. Class A awards consists of a cash prize of Rs 75,000 and a certificate.
While M Balamurugan (Artisan II), B Akbar Ali (Artisan II), M Eswaran (Artisan II) and A Gangeswaran (Artisan II) of Valves Production have jointly won a Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar Class B award for developing a process to eliminate backseat leak in forged high pressure valves. Class B awards consists of a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a certificate.
Similarly, V Narayananasari, General Technician, L Siva (Artisan II), S Kannan (Artisan II) and E Ramachandran (Artisan III) of Welding Research Institute have jointly won a Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar Class C award for indigenously developing and fabricating of fixture for repair welding of IP rotor shaft. Class C awards consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate.
Atul Sobti, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, Subrata Biswas, Director, Engineering, Research and Development, BHEL and R Rajamanohar, General Manager-in-Charge and Head, BHEL Tiruchirappalli Complex, received the Safety Awards on behalf of BHEL Tiruchirappalli.
