79 officials, 16 CCTVs to keep hawkers away from NSC Bose Road

Additional Commissioner of Police Abhay Kumar Singh, in his report filed before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam, in response to a contempt petition, submitted that in compliance to the earlier order, a meeting of higher officials was held and based on the suggestions as many as 16 CCTV cameras have been installed on NSC Bose road and along with this notice boards have been erected in nine places clearly mentioning that the places were prohibited for shops.

The Chennai corporation was taking appropriate steps to put necessary constructions without any hindrance to the pedestrians in a bid to prevent the hawkers from putting up shops, he added.

Also, listing out the bandobust plan, the addition commissioner of police claimed that as many as 79 officials (Law and order police, Traffic police, Special police/Armed Reserve and Corporation officials) per shift would monitor the street for such hawkers.

The bench on perusing the report held that “the responsibility must rest primarily be with one person at site who will be hauled up, if appropriate implementation does not take place.” The case has been listed for further hearing to October 20.
