11 including 9 women die in hitch hike travel after lorry hits their vehicle
As many as 11 persons including nine women died when their load van in which they were travelling rammed into a lorry at Jayankondam near Ariyalur on Sunday late hours.

Sources said, a group of 22 persons from Kachiperumal village near Jayankondam were returning to their place after participating a condolence at Pudukudi in a Tata ace vehicle at around 9 am on Sunday.Â
When their vehicle was nearing Kachiperumal village, a tanker lorry bound for Jayankondam from V-Kaikatti with a load of materials for cement factory, rammed into the vehicle in which the people were travelling and the passengers who were travelling on the TATA Ace were tossed off from the vehicle in which Rajakumari (55), Muniammal (60), Kasiammal (45), Kamatchi (45), Rani (40), Chithra (30), Senthamarai (50), Saraswathi (50), Selvi (40), Marudhapandi (32) and Manikandan (25) died and more than 10 persons sustained severe injuries. On Information, the Jayankondam police rushed to the spot and commenced rescue operation along with the public.
They retrieved the bodies and sent them for autopsy and the injured to Jayankondam GH for treatment.
It may be noted that 10 persons including three women were crushed to death at Tiruchy-Madurai bypass on August 12 when the people travelled in a load van.
