Mettur water flows into Mayanur

The water, released from Mettur on September 20 as per the government’s order, reached the Mayanur barrage in Karur as scheduled. Farmers led by Mahadanapuram V Rajaram, the working president of Cauvery Delta Farmers Association were present at Mayanur barrage to witness the arrival of water, which will be used for samba cultivation. Elated Rajaram said that they venerated the mother Cauvery who only brings prosperity to farmers and others. Later, they poured flower petals as a way of worshipping Cauvery. 

Meanwhile, PWD officials said that 7,800 cuesec water was received in the barrage and it would be let out until it reaches to the tail end areas. 

Meanwhile, a section of farmers led by P Ayyakannu, state president of Desiya Thennidia Nadigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam staged a protest by standing waist-level in the Cauvery condemning Karnataka government which decided to dishonour the supreme court’s verdict and not to release water after convening the all-party meeting.
