Cops attack each other in fight for woman colleague

Two policemen attacked one another during duty at Reserve Bank of India regional headquarters building over winning the love of a woman police constable. 

Govindaraj (24) and Ramachandran (24), both constables with the Armed Reserve police, stabbed one another and had to be hospitalised with deep cut injuries. After the incident came to light, the police chief demanded a report and both the policemen have been suspended. 

According to sources, Govindaraj had fallen in love with a woman police constable, also assigned duty at the RBI building. Though she was expressed her liking for Govindaraj initially, she fell in love with Ramachandran later. When she began to spend more time with Ramachandran, Govindaraj grew jealous and had frequent spats with his colleague, sources said.

Two days back, the confrontation between the two took an ugly turn and both men stabbed each other. Initial reports suggested that they had attacked one another at the AR barracks inside the Old City Police Commisisonerate at Egmore.

Later, police sources confirmed to DTNext that the attack took place inside the RBI building, much to the shock of both the CISF personnel and other AR policemen on duty there.

While Govindaraj was admitted to Government General Hospital, Ramachandran was taken to Royapettah Government Hospital. 

“We see this as a serious disciplinary failure and the policemen have been suspended. We have also sought an explanation from the woman cop involved,” a senior police official said.
