The special team investigating the case found out that the duo had arrived at Madurai High Court bench on Wednesday to seek anticipatory bail and returned to Chennai the same day. Swinging into action, the team traced the duo and arrested them.

Police, who had already arrested Inspector Muthukumar in this case, have been grilling the trio to nab the mastermind behind the heist. Police suspect the involvement of Kerala-based Hawala kingpin Sridhar and his son Arun in the heist in which Rs 3.90 crore of a Kerala-based jeweller was looted by the trio with the help of few other men. The incident happened when the employees of the jeweller were fetching money from Chennai to Coimbatore in car earlier this month. After intercepting the car, the accused seized the vehicles with jewels and escaped from the spot.

Based on a complaint from the jeweller, police began their investigation in which they established the involvesment of police personnel to their rude shock. Later police arrested Muthukumar and three other men. They claimed that Muthukumar took a share of Rs 2 crore, while they received Rs 10 lakh each.

Meanwhile, Muthukumar is said to be not cooperating for the investigation and has allegedly declared the police cannot retrieve even a penny of Rs 3.90 crore. Police said that Muthukuar admitted to the crime after initial refusal. Later he told the police to take him to Karur to divulge whom he has given the money to, but on the way he refused he said it. Now he has been taken back to Coimbatore for further questioning. Muthukumar has also allegedly challenged the police that he would come clean on the case within two years.

Suspecting that Hawala kingpin Sridhar might have given clues to accused about Rs 4 crore being transported, five special teams have been formed to nab Sridhar and his son Arun.
