Kavita, mother of the detune Arunachalm, has contended that the Kannagi Nagar police came to her house at around 7.30 pm and took her son without assigning any reason. Subsequently, her attempts to meet his son the same night and the next morning was also negated by the police.Â
While so, one of the person brought along with her son, namely Karthi died in police custody on September 21. On hearing about Karthi’s death, she immediately sent a representation to the Commissioner of Police, seeking to save her son from illegal custody at Kannagi Nagar police Station, she added.Â
She also contended that even assuming that her son was involved in any criminal activity, the police ought to have produced him before the Magistrate within 24 hours. But the police did not follow the procedure as contemplated under the provisions of Cr PC and sought the police to produce his son before the court and set him at liberty.Â
The plea is likely to come up for hearing on Friday.
