The body of P Vignesh (21), a diploma holder in mechanical engineering and a car mechanic in Chennai, was taken to his hometown Mela Gopalasamundram near Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district at around 1 am on Saturday from the party office, Chennai.

Vignesh was also the party’s Tiruvarur West district Students’ Wing Coordinator. The party leader Seeman and other office bearers also followed the ambulance to the village.

The body was kept for public homage at his house. At 8 am on Sunday, MDMK general secretary Vaiko paid homage to Vignesh. Coordinator of the Tamil Nadu All Farmers’ Federations, PR Pandian, CPI national committee member C Mahendran, BJP leader Pettai Siva and others too paid homage to him. Around 11 am, the body was taken on a procession to the crematorium at Moovanallur.

Speaking at the condolence meeting, Seeman said he and the party members were pained by demise of Vignesh. “What he has done is because of his unconditional love towards the Tamils. And as I have already advised my younger brothers, I beg not to indulge in such activities ever,” Seeman appealed.

A heavy posse of police was deputed in the village to avert any untoward incident.
