    Notice to CB-CID on Vijayan murder accused plea

    The Madras High Court on Thursday issued notice to the CBCID on an appeal filed by N Banu (MGRs foster daughter and Vijayan’s sister-in-law), the prime accused in the sensational murder of Vijayan, the foster son-in-law of former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran and six others, who were found guilty of murder by a sessions court and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment.

    A power battle between MGR’s foster children over control of the property turned ugly on June 8, 2008, when a five-member gang murdered Vijayan at Kotturpuram. 

    After nearly eight years, the trial in the case concluded and the Principal Sessions Judge G Jaichandran, on holding that Banu, had hired the five-member gang through Karuna, a police constable, who murdered Vijayan by hitting him with iron pipes, sentenced all the seven to undergo life imprisonment on July 13. 

    Now, all the seven including Banu have moved an appeal at the High Court challenging the conviction and sentence. 

    A division bench comprising Justice A Selvam and Justice P Kalaiyarasan before whom, the appeal come up issued notice to Additional Public Prosecutor Rajendran and posted the case for further hearing to September 23.
