The announcement comes close on the heels of the party inviting its district secretaries for a meeting this week end to discuss the ensuing local body election.
The proposed meeting could lend some clarity on the issue of alliance as ally Congress still maintains that it is a part of the DMK alliance while the latter has not manifested its intentions as of now.Â
Newly appointed state Congress President S Thirunavukkarsar had further confused by announcing even Wednesday that they were a part of the alliance.Â
Significantly, seniors of state Congress, which cancelled a scheduled meeting, would soon get in to huddle to discuss their alliance options or in the event of not riding piggyback on the DMK, sharing seats among themselves without much rift.Â
Though the DMK has invited applications for the civic polls, insiders have it that the leadership is not showing the as much enthusiasm to local body polls as it did for the last Assembly election.Â
Unlike in previous local body elections, the ensuing one would be a grand one considering that the state would have a dozen mayors and a section of politicos, particularly men are enthused over the government revealing its intention to defer 50 per cent reservation for women in urban local bodies owing to difficulty inability in completing delimitation exercise as per the 2011 census.
