Tamil Nadu outfits continue with protests against Karnataka

In Madurai, members of May 17 organisation staged a protest in front of the Head Post Office and shouted slogans against Karnataka government for not giving proper protection to Tamils there. Members of Revolutionary Youth Organisation (RYO), who staged protest in front of BSNL office at Tamukkam, were arrested. 

In Tirunelveli, cadres of Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam burnt the effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaya, at Palayamkottai. They shouted slogans against him and Kannada leader Vattal Nagarajan and held them responsible for the current chaotic situation.

VCK Meanwhile, VCK leader Thirumavalavan, who was in Madurai, said that owing to the ongoing violence in Karnataka, properties worth Rs 25 crore were damaged. “Innocent Tamil drivers were stripped and assaulted and Karnataka government is responsible for the terror unleashed against Tamil in their state,” he charged. 

The central government should hold talks with both the state governments, but before that the state government should convene an all-party meeting to discuss further course of action, he said. 

If the ruling party fails to convene the meeting, at least the opposition party, DMK, should convene an all-party meeting, he said. 

A series of protests across the Delta region marked Wednesday, while a few who attempted to besiege the Karnataka establishments and more than 100 protesters, were arrested. 

In Tiruchy, a group of 30 Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi members attempted to block traffic at the busy Chinthamani road and were arrested. Similarly, the members of Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam were arrested when they attempted to burn the effigy of Karnataka CM Siddharamaiah. 

Meanwhile, a section of Naam Tamilar Katchi members attempted to besiege the Vijaya Bank in Perambalur. However, the police foiled their attempt and arrested as many as 27 members. And those who attempted to besiege the Karnataka bank in Thanjavur were also held. 

Earlier, miscreants damaged a TNSTC bus mistaking it for Karnataka bus in the wee hours on Wednesday at Ayyampettai near Thanjavur. It is said that the wind shield of the bus was damaged and no passenger was hurt. Police are searching for the miscreants.
