Gang kills DMK man during morning walk
In yet another incident of morning attack, a DMK functionary was murdered by an unidentified group in Villupuram on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Selvaraj (43), secretary of DMK’s Villupuram district unit and former aide of ex-minister K Ponmudy.Â
Police said that Selvaraj , who was into real estate business along five other DMK men, was residing with his family in Ganapathy Colony on KK Road. He regularly used to go for morning walk in the railway quarters in the town.Â
As usual he went for a stroll on Wednesday morning to the same area with five party colleagues, including Senthil and Jayaprakash.Â
When he neared the railway hospital, a gang of five men on two motorbikes started following Selvaraj and his associates.Â
Suddenly, the gang stopped the bikes in front of Selvaraj and wished him. Minutes later, one of the gang members pulled out a machete. On seeing this, Selvaraj tried to escape but the gang member first cut his right hand.Â
Later, the other gang members surrounded the DMK secretary and hacked him all over his body. When Jayaprakash tried to resist the attempt of the gang and save his friend, he was also attacked on one of his hands. Meanwhile, Selvaraj succumbed to the injuries on the spot.Soon after the murder, the gang fled the spot in the same bikes.Â
Police are probing in various angles, including business and political rivalry. A special team has been formed to nab the assailants. Cops suspect the involvement of contract killers.Â
As news of Selvaraj’s murder broke out, tension gripped the entire town. To avoid escalation of the situation, tight security has been posted all over the town.Â
Selvaraj is survived by wife Jayabharathi (38) and son Vignesh.
