Police said the law and order situation in the State was under control and no major untoward incident was reported from any area.

A day after the attack on a hotel in Chennai and damage caused to around five buses at Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district, security arrangements were stepped up for all Kannadiga establishments across the city, even as political parties upped their ante, by announcing agitations.

Activists of some pro-Tamil outfits attempted to lay siege to some of the establishments like hotels owned by Kannadigas and banks and other business establishments, but the presence of large contingent of police personnel ensured that no damage was done by protestors.

Meanwhile, for the second successive day, inter-state bus services to Karnataka, which was operated partially on Sunday, remained suspended. While SETC services were operated up to the border areas like Hosur and Jujuwadi, KSRTC vehicles were completely off the roads. Not a single bus came out of the CMBT, where they were parked with police protection from Monday.

Additional security was being provided to State Bank of Mysore, Karnataka Bank, Data Udupi chain of hotels and New Woodlands hotel. Meanwhile, Chennai City Police Commissioner S George warned of stringent action against those making any defamatory post in facebook or create rumours over the Cauvery issue and the incidents in Karnataka.
