NGO demands arrest of all accused in anti-liquor activist murder case
Evidence Kathir, executive director of Evidence, an NGO fighting for the rights of Dalits and Tribals, has demanded the Dindigul police to arrest all the accused in connection with the murder case of an anti-liquor activist.

Pazhanivel from Periayakottai village was hacked to death by a seven-member gang recently when he was travelling in a bike along with his friend Saravanan, who sustained cut injuries. A fact-finding team headed by Kathir visited the village on Thursday and when Kalishwari, wife of Pazhanivel, was enquired, she told them that police did not show the FIR to her. Hence, the kin of Pazhanivel were taken to the police station and when the FIR was checked, only two persons were shown as accused.Â
Police said that the case was still under investigation and three more have surrendered at the court, said Kathir.Kathir has placed few demands to Dindigul Police. He has asked that the accused should be booked under section 3(1)(r), (s), 3(2) (va) of Scheduled Castes/Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act-2015 and all the accused must be arrested.Â
The family should also be given compensation to the tune of Rs 25 lakh for the family of Pazhanivel, demanded Kathir. Speaking to DTNext , Kathir said that Pazhanivel was a social activist in the village and worked for  the uplift of the community by encouraging education for all. Pazhanivel had been opposing the sale of illicit liquor in the village by Maruthamuthu, Muthuveeran and Bose, who procured the liquor from neighbouring villages, and filed a complaint to Vadamadurai police. Soon, Pazhanivel and his associate Raja were attacked by the trio and a case is pending.
