The objective of the training programme is to familiarise school teachers with emerging digital teaching methods and reinforce the value of teaching as a profession. The training centre will have a language lab, digital assessment solutions, lecture capture solutions, studio to develop learning material, facilities to develop simple applications for a teaching-learning ecosystem and other support facilities for the training programmes. According to Dr. S Vaidhyasubramaniam, Dean (Planning and Development) at SASTRA University, this programme would be a game changing initiative in the school education sector, which requires teachers to embrace the changing paradigms of teaching using a fine mix of modern and established teaching styles. “The quality of teachers play an important role in the school student outcome and initiatives like these are required to polish the teaching skill contours to prepare teachers for a class room that has tech-savvy solutions that reach out to students belonging to the next generation,” he said. Each six-day training programme will be organised in batches of 45 at the institute. The first batch of training will commence in October 2016. The teacher’s training programme will be offered mainly to select school teachers across different levels — primary, secondary, higher secondary and also professional college teachers in separate batches.
