Based on the Supreme Court’s direction, Sasikala Pushpa, along with her husband, son and mother, appeared in the High Court. During the hearing, the MP submitted an explanation regarding the signature in her vakkalat papers claiming that she had signed the documents before going to Singapore and handed it over to her husband. Hence, there was no forgery or confusion in her signature.
Her counsel also argued that the her former maid lodged a complaint much later after the MP moved anticipatory bail petition in the Supreme Court stating that the State police may register cases against her after she was sacked from the ruling party. Later she also moved a bail petition in the High Court bench anticipating arrest in the sexual harrassment case. So the MP should be granted bail, the counsel pleaded.
After hearing the arguments, the judges posted the hearing to 4 pm. When the hearing resumed, the judges reserved their order without mentioning the date. Earlier on Monday, arriving at Chennai airport from Singapore, she said that she would not resign from the Upper House. “There is no question of my resignation from the Rajya Sabha,” Sasikala told reporters.
On reaching Madurai by flight, Sasikala called for a safe environment for women. “Women, especially those in politics could come out of their houses only if there is particular protection,” she said.
Citing the recent murder of woman techie P Swathi and the suicide of woman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vishnu Priya, she said there was no safety or security for women. “Women must be allowed to work with dignity without their image being tarnished,” she added.
