This is to ensure initial care and protection for the rescued kids, either lost or abandoned. According to a recent data gathered on the number of children rescued from railway stations, Tamil Nadu tops the list with more than 3000 such cases this year till date.
However, for the rescued children sitting in the police station or the station corridor before being produced in the Child Welfare Committee has turned out to be a tiresome experience.
“Once the Child Assistance Centre is established, the rescued kid would get the initial level of support and care. Protection would also be ensured so that they may not be get scared due to emotional disturbances”, said an official.
According to the recommendations of the ministry, the railways will provide a space of 6X6 feet for setting up of a Child Help kiosk or desk and would function round the clock.
The kiosk would have the facility of Child helpline 1098.
Toilet facilities and waiting rooms separately for boys and girls would be made available at the station to the children who were rescued.
“We have sent the proposal citing the recommendations of the union ministry and the Tiruchy authorities have already given its nod positively,” said, A Albert Manoharan, Child Line Coordinator.
