‘CT collection doubled in 5 years’

Replying to the debate on grants for the commercial taxes, stamps and registration departments, he said though other states hiked the excise duty on fuel despite the fall in crude oil prices, Tamil Nadu alone had the lowest tax on petrol and diesel. 

Stating that the commercial taxes department had been fully computerised, he said traders could download necessary forms for various works and get them done quickly. Using this system, 3.98 lakh traders issued their monthly statements, he added. 

Similarly, the corpus for the traders’ welfare fund, which was a mere Rs two crore during the DMK regime, was raised to Rs five crore by the AIADMK government, he added. Revenue collection in Tamil Nadu, which stood at Rs 19,217 crore in 2006-07 trebled to Rs 61,710 crore in 2015-16, according to the department police note released on Tuesday.
