Staff to be hired for Housing Board soon
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board will demolish old commercial complexes at Sastri Nagar, Besant Nagar and Ashok Nagar and reconstruct them at an estimated cost of Rs 128 crores, Housing and Urban Development Minister Udumalai R Radhakrishnan announced in the Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to the debate on grants to the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, he announcing a slew of schemes, said the new complexes would meet the increased floor space index (FSI) norms. Also the state housing board would employ through direct recruitment 25 assistant engineers, 19 surveyors, 19 junior draughtsmen, 76 technical assistants, 126 junior assistants and 12 typists to fill the vacancies arising due to retirement. All Housing Board activities including application for plan permissions, allotment of houses, amount from allotment and rental figures would be done through online facility, the Minister said.Â
The Government announced medical insurance facilities would be extended to employees of cooperative housing societies, the Minister said and added that cluster housing development schemes would be taken up in villages around Namakkal and Nagapattinam towns.Â
Their areas would also be extended, the Minister added. A similar cluster in Gummidipoondi would also have its borders extended, the Minister said. In another announcement, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar told the House that mobile medical teams to benefit slum dwellers would be formed soon. Initially 10 teams at an estimated cost of Rs 2.70 crore will start operations and it include 5 teams for Chennai and one each for Tiruchy, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur.Â
Besides this, a sum of Rs 1.01 crore would be spent to start 27 mobile medical teams especially for child welfare, he said and added that these would include 15 for Chennai Corporation, 3 each for Madurai and Coimbatore corporations and two each for the Tiruchy, Salem and Tirupur corporations.
