Speaking to DTNext on Wednesday, BSNL Chennai Telephones chief general manager SM Kalavathi said that based on feedback from broadband customers and the BSNL technical team, the telecom operator decided to fix DSLAM equipment in its cell phone towers near the customers’ premises to provide high-speed broadband internet connectivity.
“We hope that this will help us not only to provide broadband connectivity to existing customers but also to new customers in remote areas where it is difficult for us to offer internet connection through underground cables,” the CGM said.
Pointing out that BSNL had over three lakh Broadband customers in Chennai, Kalavathi said that with the efforts taken by its employees, the telecom operator was able to make 6,000 customers, who had either not used the connection or moved out of the operator for various reasons, return to BSNL.
The CGM also said that they have been looking at mid-sized apartment projects with a size of 50 to 60 flats to connect them using Fibre to the Home (FTTH) technology, which had various facilities, including high-speed internet and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV).
To redress customer complaints faster, the telecom ministry has launched “Twitter Seva” facility for its consumers, who can tweet their grievances and get it solved at the earliest. “With the launch of this service we will be able to get closer to the customer and by attending his/her grievance we will be able to retain them in our network,” she said.
