Delivering his address at the seminar titled ‘Implications of New Education Policy — A Discourse’, Prince Gajendra Babu, General Secretary for Common School System, claimed that the NEP is a disastrous decision of the Union government and it would destroy the entire education system.
“The very purpose of education had been undermined by NEP and it will help produce only labourers, not intellects. The standard of higher education would take a toll as the higher education institutions were asked to raise their own funds for education. This would create shortage of funds for the institutions and they would in turn lack funds for research which would lower the quality of higher education in India,” he said.
“NEP aims to destroy all the other Indian languages except Hindi and this policy would take India back by 50 years. Even the primary education would not be available to all and hence the NEP should not be implemented,” demanded Prince Gajendra Babu.
‘Birds eye view of NEP’, ‘NEP- Secularism and Pluralism’ and ‘NEP- Social Justice’ were the topics discussed in the seminar. R Vijayakumar, Secretary, Indian School of Social Sciences, and P Rajamanikam, Former State President, Tamil Nadu Science Forum, were other prominent speakers at the seminar.
