The body of 29-year-old Saravanan, who had 18 cases pending against him, was found near a marriage hall at Millerpuram in Thoothukudi.

In the preliminary investigation by Thoothukudi South Police, it was found that Saravanan, working as an electrician, was spotted at Millerpuram on Wednesday night. Police suspect that he could have been hacked by a gang either on Wednesday around midnight or on Thursday morning.

As he has several pending cases including attempted murder cases, police also suspect that he might have been murdered owing to previous enmity.

Police are investigating and are in search of the gang that had hacked him.

Farmer hacked to death by brother in Nellai

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old farmer was hacked to death by his elder brother and the latter’s son.

The accused, Ramar (63) and deceased Ramasubbaya have farm lands next to each other with a common well. As per the agreement between them, their fields should be irrigated on alternate days.

It is said that on Tuesday, when it was Ramar’s turn, he could not supply water to his land due to load shedding. So, when he went to supply water on Wednesday, Ramasubbava didn’t allow it, which triggered the dispute. It further aggravated when Ramar’s son, Kottaisamy, allegedly attacked Ramasubbaya.

Both Ramar and Kottaisamy are said to have hacked Ramasubbaya and escaped from the spot. People working in the neighbouring fields rescued Ramasubbaya and admitted him at Palayamkottai GH but he had died on the wee hours of Thursday.

Puliangudi Police have booked a case and are investigating the incident.
