Apply online for power connection: CM Jayalalithaa

Chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday launched the new online system for consumers wanting to apply for low tension service connections, an extension of the e-governance initiative which already covers bill payment in the energy sector.  The new service would enable consumers to upload relevant documents on TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) website while applying for a new LT service connection. 

Necessary provisions have also been made for online payment of deposit amount and track the status of the application, said a government release. “At present there are 2.7 crore consumers enjoying low tension power connections. Those who seek fresh connections have to approach the local office and apply for the same. However, under the new system, one can apply for connection through online (www.tangedco.gov.in) and pay the necessary fees,” it said. 

Jayalalithaa on Friday also inaugurated 23 new sub-stations worth Rs 242.25 crore through video-conferencing. Apart from reducing the power loss incurred during distribution, the substations would also help improve the quality of power supplied and meet peak demand. Jayalalithaa inaugurated 230/110 KW substations, in the districts of Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Vellore at Karuvaloor in Tiruppur and Singapuram in Salem. 

She inaugurated 110/33-11 KW sub-stations in the districts of Tiruppur, Erode, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Tuticorin, Tiruchy and Tiruvallur, and 110/22 KW sub-stations at Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Vellore, Krishnagiri districts and Pochampalli SIPCOT. Also, 33/11 sub-stations at Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Kanchipuram, Dharmapuri and Tiruvarur districts were inaugurated. The online drive also saw the launch of the website for State Residents Data Hub on Friday. 

A website containing geographical information set up at a cost of Rs 1.32 crore was also launched. It contains details of spatial and non-spatial geographical information, which would help in ensuring proper administration of various departments.
