Replying to special call motion by DMK MLAs, the minister said Rapid Response Teams have been formed all over the State, and the state was the least affected. Preventive measures were being taken and a roundthe-clock control room was functioning to monitor reports on dengue and take immediate action, he added. Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, while replying to Ponneri MLA P. Balaraman’s query, said the state has asked the central government for Rs.10 crore to desilt the Pazhaverkadu lake.

Work would start when the project was cleared by the coastal regulatory authority, he said. Similarly, the state government allotted Rs.363 crore for fishing related activities including construction of groynes, sea walls in the state in 2015-16, compared to the Rs.13 crore allotted by DMK in 2010-11, Jayakumar said. Replying to a question by S. Pavanraj (AIADMK) who sought expeditious completion of the Tharangambadi (Tranquebar) fishing harbour, Jayakumar said a detailed project report (DPR) from the Institute for Coastal Fisheries was ready.

When Colachel MLA JG Prince sought early completion of work on Colachel fishing harbour, the minister said the Rs.60 crore work was to be inaugurated shortly. To Radhapuram AIADMK MLA Inbadurai’s plea for sea walls for two neighbouring fishing villages in his constituency, the minister said it would be studied. Though lower courts used Tamil for daily work, it was not yet undertaken in the High Court even though CM Jayalalithaa had forwarded the same to the Supreme Court which had rejected the move, said Law Minister CV Shanmugam, in reply to Egmore DMK MLA KS Ravichandran.
