Chennai boy wins at Google Science Fair

Advay Ramesh, a 14-year-old student from the city, has bagged the prestigious Google Community Impact Award from Asia that honours a project that makes a practical difference in the community by addressing an environmental, health or resource challenge.

Advay, who is currently studying in Class 10 in National Public School, presented his project on creating ‘FishErmen Lifeline Terminal (FELT)’ to enhance the fishermen’s safety and productivity using GPS. It has won him $10,000 in funding and a year-long mentorship from Scientific American to help develop his project. He will also compete for a grand prize worth $50,000 in scholarship with finalists from across the globe. Sharing his excitement on being announced the winner, Advay said “Winning the award means a lot to me, it would help me learn more and develop my idea further.”
