“It is easy to denounce and dismiss the case outside the court. We have all the evidence against the accused to get him the maximum punishment. So, let them challenge it in the court,” an investigation official told DTNext.
Sources said that the investigation team had extracted the exact statement from Ramkumar on the motive and how he had committed the crime. “He gave us a detailed description of stalking her, his attempts to win over her love and also his fury against her when she turned him down. He also told us about how he had committed the crime. He did not try to cover up anything during interrogation,” the official added.
Police had expected him to be a hard nut to crack because of his refusal to communicate. Sources said his advocates had also instructed him to deny the charges levelled against him. “He said he only wanted to disfigure Swathi’s face as she ridiculed his appearance. He wanted to attack her on her face but when she scolded him in his last attempt to win her over, he lost his cool and decided to murder her,” quoting his statement, the official added.
Police have also taken the statements of Bilal Malik, a close friend of Swathi, her father and also that of the another eye-witness in the case. Police have also found the owner of the weapon reportedly used by Ramkumar to hack Swathi and also have taken a statement from him. “All the pieces of evidence are in place and we would be getting the lab reports also soon. All the statements have been recorded. So we will be filing the charge-sheet soon,” the official added. Police said they will not be seeking the custody of Ramkumar again. “We do not need him in custody again. All the evidence collection has been done. Now we want to get the trial done and get him the punishment,” the official added.
